This week was exciting, we are still testing a lot and doing our best to be effective in real life and online. We have a limit of 3 hours of facebook time a day which keeps us balanced pretty well.
Monday was half Pday due to the upcoming temple trip. We had a family home evening with the Eastham family in our ward afterwards and read parts of 2 Nephi 5, which teaches us how to have a happy life. So that was good!
We then had District meeting on Tuesday, And exchanged. I went in Peterson Lane for the day, back on bike! I enjoyed getting some extra energy out. I do too much driving in my van. I taught latisse again online. She’s in a really tough spot that’s slowing down her baptism. She doesn’t think it will happen for a few years.. But we’ll keep working on her. She should’ve had the Elders over last night to teach her and her room mate so we’ll see how that went.
I cant remember what happened on Wednesday cause I was with Elder Cluff and my planner for that day is blank.. But we had a great FHE with the miles family in our ward and taught them the plan of salvation. During our life on earth we talked about missionary work. I asked them Q. Why does missionary work bring us so much joy? and we talked about that. I’m not going to give you the answer. You have to find it yourself hahaha
We went to the Oakland Temple for my last time on Thursday. There was over 100 missionaries from our mission there and some noticeable changes that made it a great grand finale of a temple trip. I got a cool profile pic too. On the way home I volunteered to drive the big transfer van back, AND THEY SAID SURE! I felt super cool driving the mission van full of elders over the Richmond bridge. Oakland is crazy with freeways. But my driving record is still perfect. Even though there were a few points where that almost changed..
The next day we did weekly planning made calls, did facebook got 35 online referrals from a senior missionary who used to serve here. they are sprinkled all over the south from texas to south Carolina. So i’m pretty busy online now.
Saturday we had double blitzes. One for the Windsor sisters where I went tractigng with Elder Smith! It was fun to be with him for the day again. he is serving in the Bennett valley ward across town. We then went on a blitz with the Peterson lane members. I went with their ward mission leader to visit some less actives at an old folks home. It felt less productive since they obviously don’t come cause they are SUPER OLD. but it was nice talking to a sweet old lady about her family and enjoying her company. The members love the blitzes. Sunday went fast, we taught the lasleys and did facebook. A lot of facebook is sending out referral messages and thinking what groups to add myself too. Yesterday I started hitting up ward and stake pages in Africa Ireland and England. So this week should be sweet! I’m excited for the possibilities of facebook. Our mission is now teaching in 23 different countries and almost every state. The work is truly hastening. And for all of you who haven’t given me referrals yet, get on that!

So now i have a TON of stuff to tell you. This transfer everything has been going my way i feel and i love it. God is taking very good care of me. To start off i pulled some strings with President Alba and now i am the proud designated driver of a Dodge Grand Caravan 2011 :). I’m a happy missionary. Then this week i started teaching one of Bryan McDonnells former investigators Latisse. She is super sweet, she wants to be baptized but has to wait and has been getting discouraged. But she started reading the Book of Mormon again and went to church this week. I’m trying to have her set up a time to meet with the elders out there. Its still a work in progress online. I also got to teach Bennett. The German foreign exchange student i met in the Bennett Valley area. He is back home in Hamburg. So when he is online at 11pm its like 1pm here. So its perfect! that was one of their main ideas. they did a study and found that most people are online between 9 and 12 pm. While i’m at my apartment. And missionaries generally have nothing to do between 1 and 3. So if we use the internet i can teach people in europe between 1and 3 and be super effective! so our focus is europe. The elders in Asia will be instructed to focus on California and the western Us. Its AMAZING! thats why they put the Apostles in charge. The 8873s (ipads) are amazing but are at a limited use right now because we dont have Iphones to go with them yet. When we get them we will have mobile Wifi so we can be even more effective. As for right now the church buildings, all of which have free wifi, are packed with missionaries. They allow us 3 hours a day of 8873 time. we also use it to download videos with which we can teach with later. I’ve made more people cry with my ipad then the entire rest of my mission put together. When they can see the savior in the Garden its just much more powerful then me telling them. I LOVE THIS THING. Which brings me to my next point… I would like to have one all set up and good to go the moment i step off the plane. I might go through withdrawls without it. And you cant tell me its bad cause The Prophet gave it to me. HAHA We have been teaching people in the “real world” too. Thats our focus is to make sure we balance out the work and make sure to do both. We picked up a few new investigators. But they arent as cool as my online ones. One is named bobby, i think i told you about him last week. Hes an old boxer who says the most awkward stuff ever. But hes a good family man, and loves his kids. We are going to introduce him to some members tomorrow. We had a kid named David come to church yesterday. He lives in our apaprtment ocmplex an we see him everyday. He even does morning exercise with us sometimes. He has read the bible 15 times and has been reading the book of mormon a bunch. He didnt have church clothes though so i traded him some pants for a baseball jersey, and elder makoni gave him a suit and shirt that didnt fit him. Hes a funny kid. He’s 15. We gave his little brother a bom too and he loved it. The parents like us a lot but arent too interested in it for themselves yet. So keep praying for them. I’ve also been adding more people on facebook. Make sure they dont think i’m going disobedient. I got that from Elder Maryott already so i sent him a disgruntled email. But its all good now. I’m doing good, trying not to get trunky. I have my last temple trip on thursday. My eclesiastical endorsment is done. hmmm what else is there. Emily lasley gave me a sweet friendship bracelet which is now on my side satchel.
Thats about all i got. Life is good, facebook is awesome. As a zone we found twice as many new investigators and recieve at least 5 times as many referrals as we normally do. Keep up the good work helping us out! feel free to tell anyone to add me online. And tell people to visit mormon.org
. Its sweet. Love you all! take a picture of the chain!
O side story about last Pday. I went to the air museum. And i got a picture in the cockpit of a P51 mustang while wearing aviators and holding a book of mormon. Greatest Picture Ever! But you wont see it on facebook for a while. I also saw there one of the f15s that was a first responder at 911. and an f14 (my favorite) so its been a good week. Love you all!
This week we received a device called the 8873. (ipad) it is named the 8873 because of the scripture d&c88:73. read it! The spirit in our mission has been so strong i cannot put it into words. Brother Donaldson came to train us and told us what some of the apostles have been telling him about the announcement to teach the world over the internet. L Tom Parry said “it is as significant as the first vision and the coming forth of the book of mormon” Neil L anderson “it is the meeting of the century” With that announcement matthew 24:14 is being fulfilled! we’ve had missionaries here teach people in the following places that i know of so far:
The Work is hastening and its so much fun! We get to do online work for up to 3 hours a day now. So give me people to teach! Ask for referrals! Now i dont have to wait for the members here to do it. You can do it for me! Hit me up on facebook when you have em. But dont friend me. Just message me so far. We are the test mission so i’m testing how i want to do this. Its sweet!
On Tuesday they had a special meeting where they gave a few of us the 8873 but told us we couldn’t show anyone. So for 2 days I hid it like Joseph Smith hiding the Gold Plates. I had to charge it under my mattress. It was insane! But i’ve been having a ton of fun. Emily got Baptized this week as well so its added to the amount of stuff going on. The baptism went smoothly and we had a ton of fun. Wai is doing well, she made it to the temple on tuesday! and she is now back in Shen Zhen! google maps it. Its way sweet.
Thats all i got time for. Life is going fast.
Dang! that’s so sick that you are going to be whitewash training into Oklahoma. You will do a good job. When I whitewashed I followed this scripture a lot, 1 nephi 4:6. Good luck. Keep workin hard, this week we had Wai’s baptism. She doesn’t like pictures at all so we didn’t get one. She has never taken a picture of herself! But it went well and she got her temple recommend yesterday and is going to the temple tomorrow to be baptized for her mother. Then she is going back to Shien Jien (not spelled right, but its the same place ming from the district 2 is from) and we will never see her again. Its been fun teaching her. This week we have another baptism, Emily the little 9 year old we have been teaching is going to be baptized by her dad. I’m super excited for that one. This last week has been super stressful. We organized a service project where we got 22 missionaries and set up for an air show at the Charles M Schultz airport in my area. We got to go early and see all sorts of sick airplanes. F14’s F16s and the largest collection of P51s in the world! It was a blast, we got a group picture and the lady who was showing us around is going to send it to President Uchdorf. We had a blitz on Saturday where all 39 missionaries in the santa rosa stake went tracting for some elders in their area who didn’t have any investigators. It seemed to be pretty effective. It was a good jumpstart for their area. We had a blitz in my area with just the Santa rosa north zone missionaries. We had 16 of them go with 16 members from my ward. It was super crazy to organize but they visited almost every single part member family in my area all in one day! so now we can work with the ones who are willing to listen. Its been a fun week. We get to have an MLC on special facebook training on Tuesday and then I get to help teach it to the zone on Thursday so its gonna be sweet! Oh and the best part of the week was after a month of talking to stake leaders and annoying my bishop I finally got a room in the stake center devoted to missionaries with 2 computers so we now have 24 hour access to facebook! i’m super happy about it. That’s where i’m emailing right now. 🙂
well have a good week! go wrestle some cows in Oklahoma!
Love Elder Tu66sy
Well my week went about like that. President Shumway traveled over 700 miles and took me to applebees to ask me to speak at stake conference. That’s what it takes these days. He must be getting desperate. I better be blessed for this! i’m going to be nervous for the next 2 years. The last time I spoke was in Arcata and there was only like 50 members in the whole ward. It was way fun seeing him though. Wai did get her recommend, i’ll miss her. She was interesting. Not too much crazy happened this week. It was full of a ton of planning. This next week we will be doing about the same, and then we’ll be off to a regular week. That’s all I got. that’s crazy that everyone is getting married off. tell em to send me invites if its someone I should know about. keep reading your scriptures and give the missionaries referrals. I heard we have sisters in our stake now! keep em busy!
love you all!
It sounds like you had a sweet week, we had a good one as well. We moved a ton of people to different apartments including ourselves. We had the spanish missionaries get in a car wreck, and while we were giving them a ride we got a flat tire. It was the single craziest week of my mission. But its cause satan knew good stuff was around the corner. Wai was interviewed for baptism by president Alba on Saturday and she passed! She will be baptized on wednesday at 4pm by my companion elder makoni. i’m pumped. We also had our part member family the Lasleys at our stake presidents house for family home evening. It was way fun, we taught them the law of tithing then sat back and laughed as they played show tunes. Which is a game where they act and we have to guess what they are doing. They were all masters at it! but the best was riley lasley. He is 7 and is the best actor i have ever seen! It was a fun day. we had transfers this week so i was driving missionaries all over santa rosa as well. Then one night at 1035 we got a call from our mission president asking where 2 sisters were in my zone. No one knew.. So Elder Makoni and I ran out of the apartment at 11pm to go find them in Healdsburg. 20 miles away.. We got halfway there and President Called to say they were fine. I was kinda disappointed. We were going to have a midnight adventure! but its all good. We got to sleep around midnight and i’m still tired from it. This sunday was crazy too to top off the busiest week of my life. I organized 2 baptisms for upcoming weeks, 2 blitzes involving more then 30 people and a service project for an air show where i needed the help of 20 missionaries. It was insane! but i’m happy with the results. Life is good. keep working hard! love ya!
Thats about all that happened. Its weird to hear about all the people getting home already. I’m happy i have 217 months left still. all ya’ll keep having fun! Wai is getting baptized at 5pm your time on wednesday and is moving back to china the next wednesday. She needs to get her records processed double fast so she can go do baptisms for the dead for her mom on the 20th. so pray that we can make that happen. Love you all!
Elder Nathan Tubbs of the 90,000.
This week we have crazy stuff going on today. Its transfer week and we have 31 new missionaries coming in the mission.
I and my roomates arent being transfered but we are moving. In about 2 hours. So i had to pack up everything anyway. the place i’m moving too is the EXACT same apartment i lived in with my trainer elder Webber. I’m going back to my birth home! i’m more excited then a little school girl on Christmas with a small unicorn behind the couch and a bow on its head. Its gonna be the best times ever! But in order for that to happen we have to help the sisters who live there to move out, into an apartment that is already occupied by sisters. So we have to help them move out too. Then we have to help the Petersen lane bike elders move into our apartment cause they are moving too. So the P in Pday is actually going to stand for Preparation this week instead of Play.
We had a fun week though. We saw Wai and Emily a few times and taught them the gospel. On splits one night with our former bishop christiensen (the guy from the crab pictures forever ago. He took me to tootie fruity for frozen yogurt and i contacted the cash register guy for his facebook info. Thats how smooth i am. hahahha jk bro christiensen already knew him. but i did get his info.
We have been focusing on finding through facebook a lot this month. Its a lot more comfortable then tracting. But i feel a lot lazier too. Its really easy to get distracted so it takes a lot of discipline.(?)
Anyway i’m staying for my second to last transfer here so hopefully i can stay for the last one too. I would love to die her 2 years from now. Elder Makoni is staying so i’m happy for him. We are going to baptize this transfer for sure. LOVE YA!
Dear Family and Friends,
Well this week was fun. We taught more this week then any other week of the transfer! Emily is doing well, we taught her family on Monday and had the elders quorum president there. He is getting ready to receive the melchizedek priesthood. Solid. The week gets better though.
We had district meeting on Tuesday then taught Wai at the church. We had president alba come. He speaks Mandarin and she speaks Cantonese so he can help a bit. It mostly helps with the culture barrier. She is super solid, her last name is Kam which we found out translates to Gold. She is gold! she reads everything we give her and more. She has a good memory too, we have her read the gospel principles book and then recite back what she learned. Its the best teaching method with her. She is moving back to Hong Kong at the end of September so we’ll be building up the church in Asia. After her we had our weekly scripture study with pizza. Its a great time.
Wednesday was the best, we taught Teresa at the church. Then saw sorbi, she is on very thin ice. then saw Patrick, we finally got him his book of Mormon on CD! so now he should be able to listen to it as he drives. We met this funny part member family this week who loves islander missionaires (elder Makoni) so we used him to get in the door. Some of the first words out of the non member husbands mouth were “I hate Mormons!” He then proceeded to tell us all about all the Mormons that he knows who are super solid and nice. He knew a lot! I think he just needs to be slapped. But we’re gonna work on him. We saw a bunch of other people that day and had a fun dinner with some non members that our ward mission leader tracted into. (he works for vivint so he tracts too!) They fed us and asked us a bunch of questions. The husband was native American and we asked him if he had any questions for us. He raised his hand and said “lost tribes, whats that all about?” apparently he had some Mormon buddies in high school that kept telling him he was from one of the lost tribes haha so we talked about the 12 tribes and how they were scattered. then we told him about the book of Mormon. He loved it, his family doesn’t have much faith but he is going to read it. I’m facebook friends with them now. We taught Emily lesson 3 that night. It was way funny.
Friday had our 2 best lessons, they were back to back, and about the same topic. Baptisms for the dead. We saw Kasandra! I love seeing her. We talked about baptisms for the dead and family history and invited her to come to the FHC on Saturday to get started. its gonna be fun. We had a member there, Milton who bore his testimony. It was powerful. We then saw Wai at the church and taught her the plan of salvation and focused on the same thing. Because baptism for the dead is how she found the church in the first place. It was powerful as Milton again shared his testimony. It was good for him. (we are working to get him on a mission) he is solid. On Saturday we had the Windsor Blitz, where we had 14 missionaries and 14 members pair up and go see a ton of people in Windsor. I had a sweet experience seeing a lady in one neighborhood who was inactive. We had a good talk, she knows she needs to come back. Sunday we saw wai and had church. then did weekly planning cause I can never seem to do it on Friday. Then had our super secret meeting with the zone leaders and district leaders. Its been a solid week. I’m moving next week, to an apartment on Old Redwood. Its the one I was born in!! i’m going to be going full circle. 😀
that’s all I got, I love ya all! i’m excited to see Arizona, and go to some cardinal packer games. 🙂 who do they play next? Colorado, Oakland, San Francisco, or Arizona? we can go to one of those games in 2 years. I’m glad you are all having fun and paying attention in church. Keep reading your scriptures and paying your tithing! work hard! Say hi to all my return missionary buddies for me.
love elder tubbs
