Nathan is as humble as ever. In case you didn’t remember he is the current district leader and he references his abilities below!
Well, dear family, I am doing well. We have plans to go to the beach today so I’m going to type fast.
We had a fun week this week. It was mostly a set up week for what we are going to do this upcoming week. Its gonna be sick!! We played on Monday, had a solid district meeting conducted by a great district leader. We then had Dwayne pass his baptismal interview! So later in this email you will hear about how he was baptized. 😀
On Wednesday, we taught this guy named Jim. My companions taught him last week without me. So now I get to teach him. We watched the Restoration with him – the Spirit was powerful. He felt it for sure. He is just a little resistant. But it’s ok, he will be “assimilated.” (we are the Mormons, resistance is futile!)
We then taught Dwayne and asked him who he would like to baptize him. Confirm him, stuff like that. He gave us each some super old school comic books. I got one of Batman and the Justice League. So I’ll stuff those to the bottom of my suitcase till I get home in 2 years. I then left my area to go on exchanges with a Spanish missionary. We had an extremely spiritual day with him. Or at least he said it was. All day he was talking in Spanish. It was a warmer day (almost 80!) so I was having a tough time staying awake. Sitting in the warm car, or in a warm Hispanic home was hard for me. But he picked up like 4 investigators in one day with me or something like that. I’m just a super lucky charm!
we then exchanged back on Thur and ate dinner, then taught a lady named Lia who really wants to be baptized. But we need to make sure she is doing it for the right reasons. We called her to repentance!! It was a lot of fun.
Friday we did weekly planning, taught a guy named Reuben and taught Dwayne. It was cool. Saturday was weird for us, and my favorite day. The Redwoods singles Sisters had a baptism at 9am. They are in my district and asked us to fill the font for them. So at 7 am we arrived at the church to fill the font. They brought us donuts! Then we had companionship study with them. We then had lunch at the church provided by a member. Then we studied, then we started filling the font again for Dwayne’s baptism at 4pm. (we had to switch out the water so it would be warm) so we had Dwayne’s baptism. And it was everything i hoped for and more! He took a ton of pictures for us and with us. His whole family came – his mom and dad showed up as he was walking into the font (perfect timing!). Then the talk on the Holy Ghost was related to Star Wars and they told Dwayne that I was his Obi-wan Kanobi. (that made me extremely happy) Then the closing prayer (said by a less active) was more of a testimony and it ended on a really awkward moment – haha – it was a blast. We then emptied the font, locked up and left the building at 5:30pm. So we spent 10.5 hours inside the church.
On Sunday, I was able to confirm Dwayne a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It was so cool! The Spirit was very strong. We then taught Brenda and talked about Family History. Then had a fun dinner with the Reeds. Then studied for the rest of the day after church. and now I’m here again. Well that’s my week. It’s been a good one. I’ve felt the Spirit and confounded some one.
OH! I have a fun contact to replay for you. Elder Tatton and I confounded someone, “Old School” style.
Here is the main idea of the contact. We run into a guy who says we are false because we don’t believe in the trinity like the rest of Christianity.
Then Elder Tubbs says, (after much spiritual testimony of the Book of Mormon),
“Then who was Jesus praying to in the Intercessory Prayer?”
“Who spoke from heaven when Christ was baptized and said he was pleased with His Son?”
“Who was Christ standing next to when Stephan saw him standing next to God?”
After these questions and more testimony the man was literally confounded. And could not think of anything to say. He went inside his home and we all thought it was the coolest thing ever. That was another fun part of the week. Don’t worry, it wasn’t bashing. The Spirit was there very strongly.
Well, I love you all, and I’m going to the beach.
