Here is what I sent Spencer:
It was almost like getting a letter from me, seeing the “Elder Tubbs” at the bottom. I’m glad you have a good trainer. It sounds like you are having fun. Good job on your first door! My first door nobody even answered. You are a much better missionary than I am.
Except the no return appointment. What’s up with that?? That’s ok; it’s not your fault. Good job though, I bet you and Elder Armentrout taught an amazing lesson. Make sure you involve the members of the ward in everything you do. Take them to lessons with you, take them tracting, and take them everywhere.
That’s sweet your investigators are reading! My favorite is reading with them. It’s great just helping them understand it.
Our area is doing well; we were able to find a few investigators because members brought their friends to dinner. Then we had our investigator Irene bring her granddaughter Christina to a lesson. Now we are teaching them both! It’s amazing how many miracles happen every day. Never forget that the Lord wants these people to hear the gospel and what you have to share with them is the most important message they will EVER hear. Even more important than Football…. Which hurts to say.
Anyway enough of my rambling, I love you and pray for your investigators. I hope you continue to learn and have fun. I challenge you to go teach the law of chastity to a 20 year old girl on campus. If you can do that then you’ll never be scared of anything for the rest of your mission.
Love, Elder Tubbs!!
This whole week Satan has been trying to distract me with Green Bay stuff.
Monday, we went to a less actives home and they had the Green bay game on… So we had to get out of there fast.
Tuesday was much better. I spent the day with Elder Goynes! We had lunch with this sweet old lady who hasn’t been to church in a while. Then we had an amazing lesson about the restoration. I hope I get to serve with Elder Goynes someday. He and I teach pretty well together. But anyway we invited Christina to be baptized and she is now working towards the 10th of November. It’s gonna be sweet. We then had a very good lesson with Sarah at the Coles. They invited her over for dinner. She has been reading the Book of Mormon and really enjoying it. We also found this guy as a new investigator. You’ll love him. He has red hair and his name is, get this, Brian McDonald.. ha-ha. I’m teaching one of my best friends.
Wednesday I spent the day with Elder Brown. (He played linebacker for the sun devils) He and I were looking for someone and we ran into Brian from the day before! Elder Brown invited him to be baptized and now he is working towards November 17th. It was sweet. We then found a new investigator at dinner because again the members invited their friends over. (There is a pattern here. Members are helping us find. It’s the best!)
On Saturday we were in a lesson and I looked at the clock and had a crazy idea. It was 4:30 and I said, “Hey, Amanda, (the member with us) are you going to the R.S. broadcast?” She said “Yeah”, and then I was like “Hey Lori, (the investigator) would you like to go too?” She said “Yes.” SO we had Amanda take her. It was sweet! She really enjoyed it.
Sunday, the second of my Packer temptations. We went to see this guy troy who is a known football enthusiast. He was watching the green bay game. I took one glance at the screen. Green bay 21 Saints 27. I had to ask him to turn it off…. He first offered to let us hang out and watch. Satan almost got me with that one. BUT! We taught him about the Book of Mormon and invited him to read. And we are going back on Friday when there are no NFL games. Take that Satan! I’m on to his game.
Anyway that was my week.
