Dear Family and friends,
In an effort to save time here is my email to the Mission President this week:
This week was another one full of miracles. It started out a bit slower, the work in the singles branch has started to slow down a bit and we are trying to do our best to make sure that, that doesn’t happen. So this Sunday we had something amazing happen. One of our investigators Ryan came to church. When we first started teaching him he had a date to be baptized on July
21st and had come to church 3 weeks in a row and was doing great! Then all of a sudden he stopped answering calls, texts, and stopped coming to church. We didn’t see him for about 2 weeks. But this Sunday he came to church unexpectedly. We greeted him like normal and sat with him during sacrament meeting. From talking to him after the meeting we learned that he has been having a lot of resistance from his family about investigating the church and wanting to be baptized. He told us that’s why he stopped meeting with us and coming. It was the perfect Sunday for him to have come to church, because one of the recent converts in the branch, Ashley was speaking. She shared her conversion story and talked about how the friendship of the members made all the difference for her. He related to her a lot and was encouraged by her story. He is going to come to a branch BBQ later today and we are going to meet with him tomorrow before institute. It’s amazing how everything worked out perfectly. As I thought about it later all three of the recent converts in our branch have had resistance from their families about joining the church. But because the members are so friendly and supportive they have been able to feel right at home. It’s shown me how important fellowshipping really is and what can happen when we involve members in our work.
One of our other very cool experiences from this week was meeting with our investigator Chao Her. She is engaged to a member of the Hmong branch who we started teaching recently. We were able to meet with her twice this week and talk to her about baptism. We found out she is living with her fiancé and his family. So we have to wait till after they get married before we can have her baptism. The wedding is scheduled for October so her date for now is the first week of November. As we taught her the restoration on Thursday we had a very spiritual lesson. By being bold and clear we were able to teach her about how being married in the temple and building the family upon the gospel will bless her and her husband forever. She was telling us how good it felt to meet with us and that she has been having dreams about going to church and about the Book of Mormon. It is so amazing to see the spirit working in the lives of others. I feel extremely blessed this week.
Thanks for all the messages and lessons from zone conference. It was amazing as well and I learned a lot. I really enjoy being around all the other missionaries that I serve with. It energizes me and helps me do better.
Thanks for everything you do for us.
