Dear Family and Friends,
We had a good week; I’ll go through it day by day.
On Monday we did P-day things, I got to wrestle another Elder who’s energy level was very high. He’s a lot of fun. We then had dinner which was a BBQ. The singles ward had a Memorial Day BBQ and invited us to come for our dinner appointment. We had some good food and I learned a few more names. I also ate these brownies that were amazing!
On Tuesday we had district meeting. We played jeopardy with the Scriptures from Preach My Gospel. It’s been great practice to know all the references off the top of my head. The Scriptures really can answer any question we have. We then read Alma 34 with a member of the branch named David. He has been struggling with coming to church. He is way cool and really enjoys having us over. We’re trying to help him get back into the habit of reading the scriptures every day. We went to institute that night. We have a lot of members bring their friends to institute so President Bunker said it would be a great use of our time. And I love institute. I miss going every other day. But now I can go! And the teachers are great. It’s the Senior Missionary Couple the Kemptons. This is their second mission. They are the best ever. And they are amazing teachers.
On Wednesday I was on exchanges with Elder Brower from PROVO UTAH! He went to Provo High with me till we were sophomores, then he moved to northern Utah, Layton I think. It was cool; we visited David again to help him clean out his back yard. We moved some old chairs and things. Then I mowed some grass that was about 2 feet tall. A few exciting things happened as I mowed the grass. First the Lawn Mower caught on fire! 🙂 Then I accidentally hit a PVC water pipe and shattered it. But thanks to my years of expertise and training I know exactly how to handle such situations. We first found the main water valve which was rusted in place. So we ran to Lowes and bought a metal key specially made to turn it. Then we ran to a lesson and taught it. Then we ran back and fixed his pipe. We turned the water back on and water started shooting out of a hole on a different part. So we ran to dinner and another lesson then came back and fixed it. This time it held! But by now it was 9:30. So we had to exchange back. It was a very productive day.
Thursday: We went to Rio Vista (which is part of our stake and Zone) I got some cool pictures on the way. We don’t go out there often cause of the miles it takes. We saw some people, we ate dinner with one of Elder Blowers recent converts who lives out there. He served in Rio Vista before he got transferred here. We then ran back to Fairfield in time for our lesson with Crystal, another member of the branch who can’t make it to church. She found her scriptures and read Alma 7 with us. We talked about the Atonement and after the lesson she agreed to say the prayer. it was sweet, she hasn’t said one out loud in a while apparently.
On Friday, we did weekly planning, then exchanged with Spanish East. I went with Elder Eaton to the Spanish area again. I bore my testimony in Spanish! (Extremely horribly) But that’s about all I can do in his area. It was so fun to be with him. This is his first transfer out but he’s already an amazing missionary and he is so good at Spanish. I’m glad I’m an English Elder. I couldn’t do Spanish work. Yo hablo no espanol.
On Saturday we had Stake Conference! Elder O. Vincent Halleck from the 70 was there. He is a great speaker and a funny guy. We also went to a Spanish funeral in the morning. I got to help set up and help them get rid of the excess refreshments. There were a lot, but I took care of it.
On Sunday we had more stake conference! We got to see President Bunker speak there as well. This could be his last Stake Conference. We then realized we were almost out of gas, so we walked all day. We didn’t have any appointments too far away so it was all good. We got to talk to a lot of people along the way which is the best! It was like being in a bike area again.
Well that’s my week.
