Dear Family & Friends
My P-day is on Monday, and since I landed on P-day last week I wasn’t able to check email. They told us to send that note just so you would know we were alive. There is nothing wrong with my socks other than the fact that I don’t think I have enough and I already lost one. I traded the ties because the ties I got were from amazing elders, one was my MTC comp, and the other is now in Arizona and I may never see him again. The cookies were amazing! I had to share so I wouldn’t get too fat. Everyone loved them.
My first impression of President Bunker is he is a very good Mission President. And he’s very intimidating. He reminds me of a football Coach. It’s a good thing – he’ll keep us all in line.
California is the best! I am in an area above Santa Rosa that includes a bit of Santa Rosa and Part of Windsor. It is called the Shiloh Park area. We are in the Shiloh Park ward. My trainer is awesome, his name is Elder Webber, He is the best, he’s from a tiny town in Ohio called Coshocton, he’s also an AP, so I’m the AAP, the Assistant to the Assistant to the President. Not really, that’s just my made up title. Ha ha! We have an awesome ward, they are always trying to talk to their friends about the Gospel and get us referrals. And they give us food, a lot of food. We won’t have to buy groceries for at least 3 weeks, and we eat at a members house every night. We had Thanksgiving at a member’s house, they gave us a ton of awesome food! No jello though.. and I only had one slice of pumpkin pie. But I’ll survive.
My mailing address is:
5201 Old Redwood Apt 60
Santa Rosa CA, 95403
Send me letters please, especially you, Megan. I want another story.
California is a beautiful place, the trees here are huge! And everything is green. I love it! It’s crazy, when its 50 degrees outside I can see my breath. Humidity is weird. The people here are fun too. There are a lot of different types of people. All of them are respectful, and they enjoy talking, they just aren’t always open to our message. We have been trying to visit all the less active members in the area. I’ve met so many nice people, It’s hard not to just sit there and talk to them for too long.
OH! There is a family in the ward who has a daughter who works at Adobe in Utah, does dad know an Amber Orosco? She was dressed up as a zombie for the Halloween thing. We ate dinner at their house last night and her mom showed us pictures. It was so cool! But I didn’t see any with dad in it. I was looking. I have met so many cool members in this ward. There are two members who graduated from Provo High! And another one who has a cousin who graduated in 2010. One of the members Brother Hardistay played Tight End at BYU. So yeah, it’s a cool ward.. I was sad though, I found out last year the missionaries could play in the Turkey bowl, but this year it wasn’t allowed.
I have learned so much more about the Gospel, study time is one of my favorite times of the day. It helps when you study with a purpose for who you are trying to teach and what specific questions they might have. I was learning about faith this morning. And the biggest thing is that faith always leads to action. Without action faith dies. That’s why it’s the first principle of the gospel, our faith leads us to do everything else. Alma 32 talks about faith really well. It’s a good chapter.
Well that’s all I have for now. I may send another short email after I’ve read yours again.
LOVE YOU ALL- ELDER TUBBS
I was really nervous for takeoff on the plane by the way. I haven’t been on a plane since was like 10 or something so was uneasy. But after we got off the ground I started to relax. And I was enjoying it pretty soon. I got a lot of cool pics. I haven’t seen the ocean since the day I landed, but I expected that.
Sorry I didn’t call later Meg, I almost didn’t call at all because I didn’t know what it would be like or what to say. I really just wanted to say hi. And that pay phone sucked. It cost Elder Goyins a whole doller for my call home. Ha ha, it wouldn’t take my card. There was a lady at the terminal letting everyone use her cell phone but I didn’t want to call again.
So yeah, Oakland was cool. I saw the temple from far away, and the Golden Gate bridge, and I’m pretty sure we drove past raiders stadium. I could feel evil radiating from it… jk
It’s too warm for my coat, but too cold for my suit so I usually wear my backpack for warmth. It’s really weird. The weirdest thing I’ve eaten so far is probably subway. Ha ha, all the food here is normal, except I’ve heard if I go to Villejo I might eat Duck embryo…. so yeah.
Oh, and there are elders here from Wales, Hawaii, and New Zealand! We are going to try and play rugby for sure. It’s gonna be great!
AGAIN LOVE- ELDER TUBBS
P.S. The MTC is like Hogwarts!
P.P.S. Friends of the singles ward, and others, please let me know how you are, I MISS YOU! Keep Provo safe for me.
P.P.P.S. Watch a video on Mormon.org, about William Hopoate. He’s so cool! There are a lot of good profiles on that site.
P.P.P.P.S. It’s great to hear how Brother Rodgers is doing. Keep me posted on his progress. What about Brother Matthews or Charles?
