Dear Family, and others,
California this time of year is great, it’s between 40 and 70 degrees all the time, and we haven’t had rain yet, just an EARTHQUAKE!! It was so cool!! It was a tiny 2.9 though. But it was still awesome! It was at 8:30 in the morning on Saturday during our personal study. I heard a noise and looked up to see if Elder Webber was shaking his table and he was looking at me, then it passed through the room like a wave of shakiness. We were both looking at each other, thinking was that an earthquake? Then the elders from the other apartment ran over and said the same thing. Then a member from the ward called to tell us that it was an official earthquake because we had been talking about it with her on Sunday and saying we hadn’t felt one yet. It was super cool.
On Monday, we did P-day things; we play this game called chair soccer. Everyone has a chair in the gym, and there are 2 soccer balls flying around. If your chair gets hit you have to sit down till the person who hits you gets out. It never ends, but its way fun. We have elders here who are really good at soccer; I counteract them by kicking really hard. It’s effective, but I end up sitting down a lot ha-ha. We then had dinner and FHE with a family, they’re cool, and their little boys remind me of Spencer and me arguing all the time. It was good fun.
On, Tuesday, we went on exchanges, I was with Elder Silvester from Clinton Utah, we taught a boy named Christian who will be baptized by his friend Ben in our ward before the year is over. Ben is a BOMB wrestler! His dad keeps telling me about all the matches he’s won. And Christian is the Basketball teams point Guard. They’re both awesome guys. We also sang Christmas songs with another one of their investigators and visited members. And the Zibetti’s and Yapias’s gave me Christmas cards, and socks! It was so cool!
On Wednesday, we did a lot of contacting; everyone says to come back next year, so not a lot happened.
On, Thursday we had the All Mission Conference! It was so cool! But I had to sit on the stand with the AP’s. It was weird. When President Bunker had all the Green missionaries introduce ourselves we had to say something interesting about ourselves. I just told them I wasn’t an AP. The best parts were watching a 45 minute film of pictures of a lot of the people who had been baptized in the last year. It was sweet, and then we got to sing Christmas hymns as a group. We were belting them out so loud! It was amazing! We were all super pumped up afterwards. We got done in time to rush to dinner and teach 2 lessons after that. I did get your present mom, thanks! The Cd’s are so cool! The best is that Cello one. IT’S the Best! The last track and the first are my favorites. I’ve been listening to it every day. During the All Mission Conference the departing missionaries had to bear their testimonies. When Elder Webber was up there he was talking about how much he learned and said “I can’t wait to get home and find my eternal companion… And that is not a trunkie statement!!!” It was so funny. He’s the man.
On, Friday, we ate dinner at the Bishop’s house. He had live crabs! We got to drop them in the water ourselves; they can take your fingers off, you’ve got to be careful. I then got to clean it, kind of like cleaning a fish, but with more legs. It’s a lot of work for the meat, but it was fun. I got some good pictures of it all. I got my second package that day, and the wrapped present is sitting under the tree so don’t worry. I got some good pictures of the tree as well.
On, Saturday we did the same old stuff. We brought a member to meet our investigator but we didn’t have a third male with us so we couldn’t go in. So we played soccer outside with her son while they chatted inside, it was awesome!
On, Sunday, we got 3 different packages from members with lots of candy. I haven’t had time to eat real food in the past 24 hours. I just keep snacking on candy. I need to be in a bike area. I’m not fat yet though! I’m still the same weight as when I left. We had an investigator and her son come to church. He was super excited for primary; he was pushing his mom out of the class room so he could go in. She had a great time as well. She stayed the whole time and we taught her after church. During priesthood the lesson was on the last days, the teacher is a film editor type person so he put together a movie to try and illustrate what it would look like. It was LOTR music with Clips from 2012 and Independence day. The whole time I was thinking “should I be watching this?” and “I’m so glad we don’t have any male investigators here today.” it was interesting ha-ha OH! We visited a member, the Snyders, he’s a bulldog and played football with coach Pope! And he knows the basketball coach! That was weird. We may get to play ultimate with his family on Monday next week!! I’m super excited for that.
Well that’s all I can think of. My hands hurt from typing. Text everyone you know on my phone and say Merry Christmas for me!!!
Love -ELDER TUBBS
P.S. That’s cool you have a convert baptism in your ward!! What’s her name? Where does she live? Tell the missionaries there they are awesome and buy them some socks. Oh and give them some candy. People keep giving us so much candy I feel sick. But if I don’t take it they won’t get to give a gift. So our study desk is covered in chocolate. Anyway, way to do missionary work!! Stay in it, and always share the gospel when you can. Don’t pray for the Elders to find others. Pray for you to find others that you can introduce to the Elders! That’s what I’ve learned. Oh and we learned about answering questions with invitations. If they say “how many wives does your husband have?” then you can respond “why don’t you come over for dinner? Wife 1 will cook, and wife 2 will do the dishes!” It’s that easy! Anyway, I love you all!
